It was in 2013, after a visit to the Schaff Angus Valley (SAV) ranch in North Dakota, USA, that led the Duddy family to leap into Angus seedstock production with a particular emphasis on performance and fertility.

Richard and Susie Duddy run Killain Angus with sons Ben and Thomas on Killain and Goonoo Goonoo Plains, in the Goonoo Goonoo area in Tamworth, NSW, utilising the generationally bred Schaff Angus female lines.

The Duddys are connected to generations of commercial cattle breeding.

"Before establishing Killain Angus, we were a major supplier to Australia's premier Angus feedlot, Rangers Valley, and therefore fully understand the requirements for the commercial industry," Mrs Duddy said.

"Before this, we consistently supplied Woolworths with over 1000 Angus cattle a year, becoming an MLA Top 100 Producer during that period."

She said after their trip to North Dakota 14 years ago they were inspired to build a stud program in Australia.

"SAV is the oldest and most successful Angus herd in the world.

"They've produced the famed female lines of Emblynette, Blackcap May, Madame Pride, and Abigale that have been bred over five generations and 123 years of production sales, bringing quality, consistency, and predictability.

"We offer an outcross to most Australian genetics, which is our point of difference.

"Our main focus has been on feed efficiency and profitability, as the commercial cattleman is paid for weight over the scales.

"Our focus remains on performance and the commercial traits of fertility and longevity with a structurally sound herd without ever compromising on temperament."
